Tahanaout, 35 kilometers south of Marrakech, is a good place to start your exploration of the Atlas Mountains, Africa’s highest peaks. Continue up to 1800 meters to reach the sacred Moulay Brahim, where you may marvel at the beauty and purity of nature while getting away from the noise and bustle of Marrakech. You will also be treated to breathtaking vistas of the High Atlas peaks.
Then you’ll descend to Asni Valley, passing the neighboring mountain ranges and typical Berber communities. You’ll get the opportunity to stop and learn about the local culture while sipping a wonderful mint tea offered by a Berber family.
After that, you’ll cross the Sidi Faresse pass (2000 meters) to get to the Ourika valley. Enjoy a stroll along the river while discovering the seven waterfalls. You can eat lunch in one of the restaurants.
Before returning to your Marrakech lodging about 17:00, you may enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants with a view of the river.
Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. for an 09:00 a.m. departure.
A weekly delight is the bustling Asni market. Observe Moroccan-style shops in the countryside.
There are a variety of vendors offering anything from jewelry and handicrafts to local vegetables.
Even animal trades are conducted here.
