The Marrakech-Merzouga tour is a magnificent south-eastern desert excursion that takes you from Marrakech to Merzouga, stopping at a number of important locations recognized for their history and breathtaking scenery. We make every stop a memorable experience for you.
Choosing the perfect schedule for you to get the most out of a spectacular trip.
From the first to the final day, this journey is jam-packed with landmarks, scenery, and activities, ranging from camel rides across the sand dunes to nights spent under the stars in Berber camps, and much more… to ensure that you get the most out of your vacation.
Please arrive by 09:45 a.m. for an 10:00 a.m. departure.
We begin our journey by picking you up from your location (airport, hotel, Riyad…), and then we travel to Ouarzazate through the High Atlas Mountains in a pass known as tichka, which connects the south east of Marrakech to the gate of the desert, and is considered the highest major mountain road in North Africa, reaching a height of 2.260 meters above sea level, for a magical 2 hour drive followed by a coffee break. Our next stop will be to take in the beautiful scenery along the road before arriving at and exploring the amazing site of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, which is a fortified old village with houses built of clay, situated on a beautiful river on the road between Marrakech and the Sahara, displaying amazing clay architecture. After that, we’ll drive for an hour to the cinema studio, where you may take photographs at one of Hollywood’s most renowned filming locations.
After a delicious breakfast, we’ll go to Merzouga, the sand wonderland that draws so many tourists, via the Valley of Dades, a 25-kilometer stretch of breathtaking scenery nestled between the high Atlas highlands and the djebel Saghro mountain. We’ll also visit the Todgha gorges, which are similar to the Dades and are another beautiful river canyon at Tinghir, which is a town in the Atlas mountain’s south, and whose name means « foothills. » It’s time for some pure saharian fun: We will drive for around 20 minutes to Tinjdad (a village on the way) and then stop at the mlaab to experience traditional dress and take free and unforgettable photographs.
We’ll get up early to witness the spectacular sunrise from the center of the desert. The camels will then be taken back to Merzouga, giving you extra time to enjoy the expansive sand dunes. The experience will continue on our trip back to Marrakech… We’ll make a pit stop at the Daraa Valley, a river that flows from the Atlas Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. In Ouarzazat, we took a break for lunch. At 7 p.m., we arrive in Marrakech.
